An excellent way to learn how to kayak tour is to take our Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail Expedition. Not only will you experience one of the wildest, most remote coastlines in the lower 48 but you will learn how to prepare, organize, pack, navigate and celebrate the joys of kayak touring under the leadership of Tommy Thompson on this 5-day expedition. The expedition is open to experienced, ACA, Coastal Kayak Level-3 (or equivalent skills) or higher, open-water paddlers. This expedition is unsupported and each paddler is responsible for their own gear and provisions. (Expedition kayak and paddle gear is available for an additional fee.) Camp sites will be those established on the Big Bend Saltwater Trail. The expedition will travel up to 15 miles in a day. The exact itinerary will depend on various elements including weather and paddlers' desires to explore the wildlife and culturally rich Big Bend coast. We will put in on the Aucilla River and the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. We will then make our way along the coast toward our final destination of Suwannee, Florida where the famous Suwannee River enters the Gulf. We will then return to our put-in via shuttle.
