Calendar for Eco-Tours and Events

We offer a variety of eco-tours that will suit a wide range of paddling skills. If you do not see an eco-tour that fits your interests, skills or schedule, contact us and we will build a tour around your desires, ability, and schedule.

Kayaking Tour Self-Assessment:  We are often asked about the suggested level of kayaking experience and skills needed to participate in the Florida Kayak School’s tours.  We have embraced a chart that was created by the Tampa Bay Sea Kayakers to help answer this question.  This chart will allow our clients to self-assess to determine which of our tours are appropriate for the paddler’s skill-level.  Each tour we offer has the suggested skill-level noted in the description.

Kayaker's Skills Self Assessment Link:

Mini Eco-Tour: 2+ hours on the water. $50 per person.  This price includes the kayak & gear and guide.  Mini Eco-Tours are designed for people who may have never been paddling. Mini Eco-Tour trips are a great way to introduce you to the beautiful areas of North Florida and paddling.  The BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat) price for the Mini Eco-Tour is $40 per person.

Half-Day Eco-Tour: 4 - 5 hours on the water.  $65 per person. This price includes the kayak & gear and guide. Half-Day Eco-Tours are at a leisurely pace, and we take a lunch break about half way through the trip.   Bring your refillable water bottle, snacks and a lunch. BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat) $55.

Full-Day Eco-Tour: 6+ hours on the water. $75 per person. This price includes the kayak & gear and guide.  Typically we are on the water for about 6 hours. Bring your refillable water bottle, snacks and a lunch. BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat) $65.

What to Wear and What to Bring:  Kayaking is a "Water Sport.” The "Water" part of this means that you may get wet.  The "Sport" part means that this activity requires some degree of physical ability, strength and conditioning.  If you are concerned about your fitness for the adventure, feel free to ask for more details about the physical demands of this tour.  Bring with you drinking water, sun protection, and shoes that can get wet.  Also, be sure to dress for the expected weather conditions.  There is often the likelihood of a shower, so always be prepared for the possibility of rain.  You are encouraged to bring a change of clothes. If you are signing up for a Half-Day or Full-Day Eco-Tour, be sure to bring enough food for lunch and snacks.  Your guide will provide a dry bag/box for such personal items as car keys, wallets, etc.

You must pre-register for eco-tours and events.  In the calendar below review the eco-tour description.  To pre-register contact: Sales@FloridaKayakSchool.com or call 850.445.3236. You may cancel your registration up 24 hours prior to the beginning of the tour.  Should threatening weather be in the forecast, the guide may be forced to cancel the trip for your own safety.

Customized, Private and Group Kayak Skills and Rescue Instruction

One of the many elements of the Florida Kayak School and Tours that make us unique is that we meet you where you are in regard to each client's abilities and desired outcomes. For this to happen it is essential to communicate with the staff so a specialized program can be created to ensure clients know what they are getting into and what they may expect to get out of this experience.

At The Florida Kayak School and Tours we will help you to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to explore with confidence and safety. Through our American Canoe Association and British Canoe Union designed courses, kayakers will gain an understanding of the various and changing environments of kayaking.  Kayakers will develop skills and judgment with an understanding of personal abilities and limitations in the face of the ever-changing environment of sea kayaking.

The Florida Kayak School and Tours is based in Florida's Panhandle (Tallahassee).  However, we offer kayaking instruction throughout the region through our staff's insatiable wanderlust and a cadre of American Canoe Association certified, affiliate instructors.  We can put together a customized skills and/or rescue course to be taught at a time and place that will work for you and your agenda.

Kayak Camping 101 Course - Part 2: Ochlockonee River/Lake Talquin

Kayak Camping 101:  Hate bugs, dirt, sleeping on the hard ground and eating gruel? It doesn’t have to be that way. With the right planning and gear kayak camping can be enjoyed in real comfort - if not luxury. Your kayak is the perfect escape vehicle! More importantly, kayak camping offers a unique sensory experience. At remote campsites there is peace, solitude, and the sights, sounds and smells of nature. This experience allows for a mindset that allows a connection to nature that is second to none. In this environment all food tastes like a gourmet meal. Inexpensive wine seems like the finest vintage. Sunrises and sunsets are longer and more profound and intense. This class will prepare you to experience the joys of getting way-away!

Part I, Lafayette Heritage Park: This land-based class will focus on a demonstration of “lavish” kayak camping. The talk will cover the basics of trip planning, equipment selection, packing and loading, site selection, selection and planning of food and water, dealing with local hazards, (bugs, storms, bears, etc.) and emergency equipment and procedures. If nothing else you will be amazed at the luxurious amenities that can be stuffed into an ordinary touring/sea kayak.  This part of the course will be appox. 3 hours, 9 - 12, Saturday, February 11. 2017

Part II Ochlockonee River/Lake Talquin:  This part of the course be a one-night, guided kayak camping paddle along the Ocklockonee River to our campsite on Lake Talquin.. The paddle will be short, (approx. 7 miles), and in relatively protected waters. It calls for intermediate level paddling skills and appropriate safety gear as well as whatever amenities the participant chooses to bring. Meet at the put-in at 10:00 a.m., February 25, 2017 and plan to be off the water by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. February 26, 2017

Course Duration: Part 1: 3 hours;  Part 2: 2 days
